| Two wins in two seasons...Can Pirates break out?
Jordan and Bob are gone, leaving perennial batting average leader Marc and stellar defensive player Stephan to carry on the Pirates legacy. The Pirates landed two big fish in the Free Agent market in Tom and Dion and have a solid structure to build on.
Marc is just tough to pitch to. The one handed bat has proven to be nearly impossible for pitchers to miss. Stephan has always played great D but in 09 he hit .323, and now that lifetime RBI leader (181) Tom is on board, and masher Dion is in the lineup look for the scoring deficient Pirates of the past to turn into a run scoring machine. Not to mention the monster at the plate Dan Peters. If he turns out to be more than a part time player the best lineup in the league will be unstoppable.
While not as devastating as some of the rotations that have made their way through the Wiffle ATL the Pirates are very good, and now they’re deep too. Marc can hold his on, but Tom holds a life time 1.165 WHIP and though Jordan will be missed, the off speed and accuracy he brings will stabilize the pitching. When Dion is on he can be unhittable. Dion throws hard, really hard and his cut fastball/slider is hell on righties.
The Pirates may be the best fielding team in the league. Stephan is a two time all-star for his defensive abilities and Marc and Tom are exceptional as well. They will just make the pitching that much better.
Projection: These guys can hit, and are likely the best lineup in Wiffle Atlanta 2010. So scoring runs will not be a problem. As I said the D is outstanding so if there is a weakness, its tough to find one, then it’s the pitching but the bigger fields and a more well rounded Pirates can make a strong run at the championship.
